Flesh Wound Vs. Heart Wound

Flesh wound vs. Heart wound

One breaches the physical body, one the soul.

We feel them. We’ve experienced them. They are indescribable. Words never doing justice to the impact they create.

A heart wound fills the room with:

the battered breath of the devastatingly broken gasping to find air

the anguished sobs of awakened truths

the weight of tragedy baring down on stunned shoulders

If you were to gaze down into the deepest cracks running as far to the core of the earth as they go, you would see the depths of a heart wound.

Deep flesh wounds are gruesome. Only the strongest stomachs can withstand the sight of them.

But heart wounds? I think it’s only God who has the capacity to stomach and withstand the full sight, severity and depth of them.

A heart wound vs. a flesh wound? Incomparable.

A loving earthly father wraps the flesh wound as tenderly as he knows how to do. Applies medicine. Comforts as best he can.

Behind the curtain of life, your Heavenly Father perfectly wraps the heart wound. His able hands are delicate with the most tender pieces, not missing a single one. The shards, slivers, and microscopic pieces don’t miss His eye.

After all, He is familiar with your story. He knows the blows you took. He took them with and for you.

The moments you began to realize your story was taking a turn, unfolding differently than you were led to believe, leaving you reeling with the loss of a dream, a loved one, or a plan that was never meant to be… His eyes never left sight of you. His ears, ever tuned to your call, understood the silent cries, the jumbled noises, neither resembling words nor sanity, that poured forth.

It may be hard to believe from the place of pain you’ve found yourself in, but He created a gathering place just for you.

This gathering place is where He laid out the broken pieces of your heart, soul, and story. Not missing a thing. Your Heavenly Father is a master at what we only have the language to refer to as craftsmanship, art, beauty, and life. As the creator of only good things, He’s weaved together everything that makes you, YOU. Every beautiful, painful, complicated, and unique piece.

His gathering place is your space. It’s where you get to rest, recover, and heal. You may not feel it in the physical realm as you deal with shattering pain, but it can be found in the sacred gathering space dedicated solely to you.

Every time you’re reminded of what you’ve been through. What you’ve endured. The wrong done to you. Your deepest pain. You can rest in the gathering place He created for you. Begin to see the pieces of your life put back together by the master of all things.

If you close your eyes you can envision this gathering place. It’s a sight to behold.

When you begin to feel the first semblance of wholeness again, the scene will slowly clear in front of you as the fog begins to lift.

You’ve internalized the pain. It’s what the wounded do.

Yet, He beckons you to the gathering place.

It’s in His arms. In His chest. It’s safety. Security. It’s with Him. His presence.

He gives peace that surpasses all understanding. His joy is our strength.

You may be reading this, still at the point of impact,

or maybe decades later,

still knocked back at the breath of a memory.

Wherever you find yourself… He’s inviting you to rest while He gathers. Gathers the memories, the loose ends, the unfinished chapters, the lack of closure, the tears, the pain, the core of the earth deep sorrow… and simply, every part of the story that still feels very much unfinished.

He gathers. He heals. He re-frames the picture so that we can see things in a way we’ve never seen before.

Gathering you up, He heals every, and I mean every, wounded, mangled, charred, mutated piece. All that’s been done to maim and destroy you, blurs at the ability of His power to heal a heart that has grappled with the worst.

Remember that heart that once beat actively within your chest?

If you wait. If you’ll allow it. He will revive and restore, setting your heart at a new pace with capacity to run with Him, adventuring in ways paved solely for you.
